I hope they are reactive enough to scale it up if the demand exceed the expectations but I feel like that's the kind of thing that will require authorization to and getting that authorization from someone who's pressured at keeping the cost low and keeping a lot of stakeholder happy is the trickiest part. The goal of a product is to minimize the infrastructure cost and they will attempt to get away with the less amount of computing power possible. Like the issue here is that I don't believe for a minute that they cannot scale it up through the roof, I'm just willing to bet it is a cost issue more than anything else. Not all infrastructure is well suited for horizontal scalability. However, it's extremely expensive to as well, and they are usually very eager to scale up your infrastructure vertically and not allow you to scale it down later. Yes they make it easy to scale, I use AWS at works everyday and I can agree on that. I wouldn't take days off for that launch tbh. From having played other smilegate games they are usually pretty generous with their apologies but since everyone value things differently it'll never be enough to some. However if the game is unplayable for the 3 days then I hope we get some part of compensation. Just about any companies will take a reactive stance on that front so some issues are expected and they should have resource ready to combat them. You won't purchase 2x the expected capacity in advance on the off chance you sell multiple time as many packs in the last couple days. These things are planned and adjusted because server space and processing power is super costly. They have an idea that X players will be there but if they sell a lot more founders pack than expected on the 6th and 7th then it might not be as smooth as you think it will. One thing to note is that no amount of preparation is enough when these kind of packs show an exponential growth in sale a couple days before the launch, which they often do.
